The Race to Richmond
Our journey to the 2021 World Cup
In July 2021, a group of determined and passionate people will represent New Zealand at the Quidditch World Cup in Richmond, Virginia.
The only problem is getting there....
There are approximately 13,989 kilometres between Wellington and Richmond and the Black Brooms squad intend to run, bike, row, or swim every centimetre of that distance with your support behind us. Whether it be per kilometre or in a lump sum, all donations are welcome as we try and hit $13,989 to help us get the team trained and ready for World Cup glory. For every dollar of donation we receive, a member of the squad will complete a kilometre.
In 2018, The Black Brooms represented New Zealand for the first time at the Quidditch World Cup in Florence and broke into the top 20. This time, the Black Brooms are looking to double their achievement and aim for #Top 10. With your help we can obtain the money we need to get our 21 person squad to Richmond and give us the opportunity to train and prepare for this chance to meet our goals. All funds will go directly to the team’s World Cup budget and will be spent on tournament fees, health insurance, accommodation and logistical costs.
With our pledge to match each donation with a kilometre travelled, you’ll not only help us raise the funds but get our squad match fit!

To donate, simply go to our Givealittle page or drop a donation via the pay pal link below and put the phrase “Race to Richmond” in your description. Any donation, no matter how small, are more than welcome.
To track our progress, the squad will be using the fitness app and tracker My Virtual Mission to document their kilometres completed to match your donations. If we exceed our goal, we have pledged to donate any excess amount of funds raised to charity.
